Sixth Sunday of Easter

Heifer Project Emphasis Month

No. 35

Dear Friends,

One of the recommendations in our Feasibility Study was that we recognize and publicize our work as a congregation in areas of Christian mission. The Mission and Outreach Committee has taken that recommendation seriously and has been trying to make its varied mission programs and projects known to the church. The Mission and Outreach Committee does an enormous amount of work which is generally not realized by those who have not served on that committee, but which is essential to our ministry in fulfilling the mandate of the Lord of the Church to minister in his name Indeed, it has been rightly observed that a church not on mission is not fully a church. (Jesus made his call to minister to others in his name quite plain in the teaching sections of the Gospel, but you may wish to refer to a succinct summary of that teaching in Matthew 25:34-40).

I am pleased that we have increased our giving to Our Church's Wider Mission in recent times, and I am also grateful for the quiet and cheerful work guided by the Mission and Outreach Committee in regional and local ministries. Please take time to note the many missional efforts in which The Church of the Pilgrimage is involved in the ministry of Jesus Christ on your behalf.

For many years our church, in addition to its other mission programs, has adopted Heifer Project International as its World Missionary Emphasis. We are blessed to have Rosalee Sinn, Director of H.P.I., as a member of the congregation of The Church of the Pilgrimage. I, personally, stand in awe of her work and the energy and joy with which she performs it. I also give thanks to God for Rosalee's reminder to us that Jesus calls us to serve others.

During the month of May The Church of the Pilgrimage gives concentrated focus to its World Missionary Emphasis. H.P.I. is a unique program designed to provide long-term aid to those in need around the world. It is based upon the simple idea that recipients of animals provided by H.P.I. are to give offspring to others in need. Thus, gifts truly keep on giving. H.P.I. started with providing heifer cows to those in need, but now provides all sorts of animals to people and the instruction in husbandry to maintain them.

During May you will learn much about the marvelous and inspiring work of H.P.I. You will also be given an opportunity to be directly involved with our World Missionary Emphasis through your gifts to its ministry. You may even see some of the animals which will be destined for distant places because of your generosity!

I hope that you will become as enthusiastic about H.P.I. as I am. It helps us to fulfill Jesus' mandate to serve others in his name.

Love,

Gary

Safe Church Policies & Procedures - Five members of our church attended a meeting on May 4th at Andover Newton Theological School in Newton Center. The conference attendees will be available to relate their learnings to any who are interested at a meeting following a Sunday service. They will also report their findings to appropriate boards and committees. We thank all the attendees for their willingness to sacrifice a Saturday in order to attend this very important conference.

Please call the church office if you are aware of someone in a hospital, especially in an out-of-town hospital. Also please notify the office or Rev. Marks of other pastoral needs. You are reminded, too, that arrangements for a private Service of Communion may be made by notifying the minister or the church office.

REMINDER: All those who signed up to make sauce on Saturday morning, May 4 at 9:00A.M., please make a note on your calendar and bring any one pint containers that you may have. All those agreeing to make cookies, we will need them brought to Allerton Hall on Saturday morning, May 4 in order for us to have time to make up the packets. Extra sauce will be available! Thank you, Diana Budge
