Dear Friends, There is much excitement in the air as Labor Day passes and we are on the brink of what for many people is the real "new year." School is back in session and that seems always a bitter/sweet occasion. At our house it means Kathy is off early to teach at Plymouth South High School and Robbie is off to Plymouth North and, as I am sure it seems to many of you, I am aware of just how quickly the passages of years have fled. Robbie is a senior! That is shocking since it seems only months ago, not years, that I was delivering him to the Nathaniel Morton grade school! Time does fly by and what is true concerning the coming and going of Labor Day for all of us in our society is also true of the pace of life at the Church of the Pilgrimage. Church School will get underway soon with registration on September 8th. We have a new Church School curriculum which we think to be an excellent one which will present the truths of our biblical faith in the context of the living experience of our young people. We also welcome Dan Spacek to our ministerial staff as interim associate minister. Dan is a recent graduate of The Pacific School of Religion in California, but his roots are in New Hampshire. He has been with us since August and he and I have had many meetings and are holding ongoing planning sessions for the year which lies ahead. Dan is "learning the ropes" of The Church of the Pilgrimage and I hope you'll help him as he adapts to us and practices his ministry among us. He is a personable chap, poised and eager to share his considerable talent among us. Dan's primary responsibilities will be in the area of Christian Education, but he will have opportunities in other areas of ministry, as well. He has been participating in Sunday worship since his arrival and has given very good children's sermons. Please make Dan feel welcome and at home. With the coming and going of Labor Day, too, comes the implementation
of the congregational vote to proceed with the campaign to raise funds
for the improvement of our facilities. Our needs with regard to church
school, crib room and office space are clear to anyone who observes them.
We have much to do in order to be faithful stewards of what we have received
and to provide for future generations. So, Labor Day is a kind of "new year". It is one which can be filled with enormous opportunity and growth toward the fulfillment of our call to be Christians here in Plymouth and in the troubled world in which we exist.
