Dear Friends,

The choir last Sunday was marvelous! Once again it showed its range in the selection of the pieces it performed, and performed so very well. I will long remember the power and enthusiasm conveyed in the choir's singing "Order My Steps."

The only negative aspect or recalling the magnificent music of our beloved choir is that it is its last performance until the fall. Once again I give thanks to God for the marvelous gift of music which our choirs, all three of them, provide for our worship and pleasure during the church's year.

The last appearance of the choir for the season means that summer is here, at least according to the calendar! We have recently celebrated Confirmation and Church School Day, other sure signs of the end of another church year. Those services, too, require superlatives in order adequately to describe them, but I'll simply thank Dan, the mentors, the C.E. Committee and all who provide for us an outstanding array of activities for our children and young people. We are blessed!

The arrival of summer also means that I have been making plans for my use of the month of July. As many of you know (how could you miss it)! I have been pursuing a study of Celtic Christian Spirituality. I first attended seminars at Trinity College, Dublin and then at Durham Cathedral/University, Durham, England. Last year I visited ancient monastic sites in Ireland to continue my interest.

This summer I am going to return to Ireland in July, but this time I will be accompanied by my son Jonathan. Kathy, for complex reasons, cannot travel with me this year. As I was reconsidering my summer plans Jonathan said he would like to go with me. I very much look forward to having that time with my oldest son, continued study of Celtic themes, visiting places I've not seen and having time away from what I usually do. It is an ideal way for me to combine vacation and study time. My only worry is that, since neither Jon nor I are blessed with a keen sense of geographical direction, we may spend most of our time in Ireland being lost! Kathy and I are hoping to have a weekend get-away sometime in the fall and, of course, we will have time together with family and friends at Bloody Pond and on the Cape during the rest of the summer.

Though I have spoken about summer and the end of a church season, my thoughts are already upon the fall and the beginning of a new church year. We have much toward which to look. There are a large number of people who have indicated an interest in church membership and I'll offer a course early in the fall. We are, as a congregation, on a positive path and the spirit is pushing us onward. The Church of the Pilgrimage is an exciting and spiritually alive place to express our faith and to be God's covenanted people. Let's keep growing in spirit and in truth!

Love,

Harvest Fair: The Harvest fair Committee meeting is scheduled for Wednesday evening July 23, 2003 at 7:00 P.M. at 15 Oak Street. Will all table leaders try to attend as we begin to seriously finalize Harvest Fair plans. Please bring any lists of helpers that you may have and any new ideas. Individual letters will be sent to all table leaders but anyone who would like to become involved is welcome to come to this meeting.

Linen and Things: As you go through your closets this spring, please keep this table in mind. We are on the lookout for tablecloths, place mats, doilies, runners, pretty pillowcases, napkins and any other old or new linens with the exception of sheets and bedding. Call Gayle David for information or pick up.

The Tuesday Night Knitting Group will not meet formally during July and August but anyone is free to call me if you have particular problems that I can help with over the summer. We will resume our meetings on the second Tuesday of September. Diana Budge (508) 746-4514.

Our New Hymnal: We are well along in preparing our supplement to the Hymns of Truth and Light. We have obtained two copyright permissions and expect to receive more shortly; we have ordered and received proofs of all the hymns we hope to include; we are proofreading and perfecting the hymns and other printed material, such as our church Covenant, Unison Welcome and Statement of Faith, the church name to be printed on the cover and dedicatory book plates. By the end of July we will place our preliminary order for the printing of our new hymnal.

Next month, in August, we expect to receive, review and approve the contract and invoice from the printer, and make a first-half payment. This will commence the actual production process, and will also mark the beginning of our effort to encourage members of the congregation to buy bookplates to have affixed inside new hymnals to honor or dedicate to loved ones, and to gift hymnals to the church. We will also be soliciting ideas on how best to
recycle the Pilgrim Hymnal.
Bill Harting and Louise Brown, Hymnal Committee

A note from the Stewardship Committee: We know many of us go on vacation during the summer months. Please remember to mail you pledge to the church office if you are not going to be in church. You could mail it in weekly or send a check once a month. The Church counts on your pledges to meet the budget. Thank you!
