Dear Friends,
As you are aware by this time, the renovations to Church House are nearly complete.
You may also know that we cannot move into the building until the town inspectors
approve the fire-prevention sprinkler system with which there is a problem. This
delay is aggravating for all of us. We are betwixt and between.
The unavoidable delays are especially difficult for the Room 2 Grow Nursery School,
the secretary, the Church School and for me, too! This delay is no one's fault
and we hope that the problem with the sprinkler system will soon be resolved.
We are trying the best we can to find alternative meeting spaces for the many
groups who use our buildings and soon we will be into a beautiful, well-planned
new educational/office facility.
The grand opening of the building has been postponed for now. It was to have
taken place on October 14th, but we can't be sure right now that we'll be able
to occupy our space. It will be a happy day when that finally takes place!
Life, it seems, is full of frustrations. Patience is a virtue, we have been taught,
but that virtue at times is tested and the frustrations set in. People become "short" with
one another, and we act sometimes in ways that are out of usual characters.
Last Sunday's sermon text was Philippians 4:1-9. It is a truly majestic passage
of Scripture which is a part of a letter sent by the Apostle Paul to a church
he himself had founded. Paul was aware of frustration in that congregation which,
if not quelled, could lead to destructive "bad feelings" between or
among otherwise very good people. He reminded the congregation that it is not
becoming to Christ's ministry to allow aggravations or disagreements to be the
church's dominant characteristics. He asked the church to focus upon the gifts
of grace and of the positive attitudes becoming of Christian even in difficult
times. He said this to his beloved, but troubled, little congregation.
"Finally, beloved, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is
just, whatever is pure, whatever is pleasing, whatever is commendable, if there
is any excellence and if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these
things" (4:8).
In other words, before being negative, before allowing absence of agreement to
be hurtful, remember and think about the beautiful qualities of gentlemen which
ultimately define the church. Think about those things which make church people
different from others. In all, be gentle with each other and trust the gifts
of grace we have been given and which are to define us.
Love,

when you want to reach him. The church secretary is also still between
her new office space and the Unitarian Parish House. The office phone

be settled in our fabulous "new" administrative/ educational
building.

a location to be announced. (It may be in the restored Church House)!

Harvest Fair News: The fair is less than 2 weeks away and we are
in need of volunteers to help out with setting up and volunteers
for working on tables during the fair. If you have a few hours the
day of the fair, October 29th or Friday, the 28th we need you! And
your help would be greatly appreciated. A few tables are also in
need of things: American Girl Doll Table is looking for any gently
used clothes for dolls or Bitty Baby dolls or doll accessories. Please
call Marilyn Colburn at 746-8690. The Bubbles and Bath Table is looking
for any pretty hand towels, soaps, lotions etc. Please contact Barbara
Northrop at 781-582-2050 if you can help in this area. The Linens
and Things Table is looking for any linens such as tablecloths, napkins,
doilies, placemats, table runners etc. We are also looking for any
sewing items such as pillows, runners etc. that anyone may have.
Contact is Gail David at 746-9182. Debby Porter is looking for kitchen
help for the Harvest Fair Luncheon. She does such a wonderful job
with this, serving lobster rolls and other yummy items for lunch.
Please call her or speak to her in church if you could help her out.
Her phone number is 746-4109. Remember to pick up your raffle tickets
at church on Sunday. Dave Cowie has done a lot of work on this and
we have a lot of great prizes to be won this year. This raffle brings
in one quarter of the total funds of the fair. Let's keep it going.
Pick up tickets to sell to friends, neighbors, colleagues and yourself
and have a chance to win a fantastic prize. Thank you Dave for all
your hard work! There will be a final Harvest Fair Meeting on October
17th at 7pm at Laura Curtin's home, 10 Kristin Road. Call for directions
if need be 746-7761. Thank you to everyone who has already signed
up to help with the fair and to all of you who work so hard year
after year on your tables! It is greatly appreciated. Sincerely,
Laura Curtin
Annual Halloween Dinner Dance: This year we will be having a Pot
Luck Supper and Dance on Friday evening, October 28, 2005. Dessert,
Salad, Rolls and a Beverage will be provided as well as an evening
of Halloween fun. You are asked to bring a main dish to be shared
that does not include nuts or shellfish (we are concerned about those
who may have allergies). Be sure to label the dish with a description
of the dish and your name so the container can be returned to you.
It might be fun to add the recipe for those who would like a copy
to use at some future date. The cost for the evening will be $3 per
person with a $10 maximum for a family of four or more. We hope that
you will come in costume and join in the "parade." Eugene
Distefano has agreed to be our master of ceremonies this year and
has some interesting things planned. Sign-ups will begin this Sunday
and continue for the month. Don't miss this event. It is a staple
for our Harvest Fair weekend and is always a great time.
Nancy Elder-Wilfrid celebrated the 25th anniversary of her ordination
on October 12. She is not currently serving a church, so there is
no gathering of well-wishers planned this year. However, if you would
like to surprise her with your greetings and congratulations, they
would certainly be welcome. Her addresss is 2 Heather Circle, Jefferson,
MA 01522.
Movers Needed! The Board of Trustees will be looking for a group
of people who can help move the items from the storage bin back to
the Christian Education building (church house). We need trucks,
cars, back (!), luggers, haulers, cheerleaders, snack providers,
etc. The move may be staggered, depending upon people's availability
and offers. It may happen over 2-4 days, since we do not have set
date in which we can move. Please call the church office and leave
your name and phone number with Shellie and we will get back to you.
Also, leave the times you are available to help and what kind of
assistance you can offer. Thank you!
