No. 29

Dear Friends,

Since I've returned to church after my surgery I have had several tours of our Church House to see the progress being made. Last week Larry Foster gave a tour of the building to a few who will be working with young people there. I, along with the others, could hardly believe that we were in the "old" Church House! (Larry, by the way, has been overseeing the project almost every day since it has started. He deserves, with may others, a great deal of praise for what he accepts as a labor of love for the Church of Christ). The building is so dramatically different from what it was that I've even suggested that we change its name. There aren't many who have positive remembrances of the building by its present name!

No matter what becomes of the idea of a name change, I have been impressed by the dedicated ardor of the many people involved in the Capital Campaign and with all who have planned the layout of the building, and have executed those plans. I am more than impressed, I am inspired! The office space, meeting space, classrooms, the large open space now on the second floor, the storage rooms, the kitchen, et.al. have all reflected suggestions made and have taken into account the space we need for ministry and for possible future uses for new avenues of ministry.

You have probably heard the old adage that a camel is an animal designed by a committee. Church House was designed by many committees and, evidently by divine intervention, because it completely defies the wisdom of the camel-adage! I can't wait for all of you to see how lovely and efficient a really bad space has become!

The Church House as reconfigured is a spiritual calling at The Church of the Pilgrimage. Christian education has always been among our top priorities along with our worship of God who speaks to us still in risen life of Christ. In November we will welcome a new settled associate minister who, with me, will "labor in this vineyard" to honor those priorities. I spoke with Heather a few days ago and she is excited about he possibilities there are for growth in the Spirit at The Church of the Pilgrimage. She has been, frantically in fact, planning her service of ordination at the U.C.C. church in Minnesota. She will be ordained today (October 9, 2005)! In all sincerity and humility Heather asked that you pray for her and to remember her especially at 3:00pm when the "hands" of those ordaining her are placed on her head. Heather is a very spiritually-minded young woman. She accepts her ordination in complete solemnity appropriate to one who is called by God to serve the ever unfolding truth of God's living presence of the Risen One. Please pray for her. Please thank God for her.

The days, weeks, years ahead promise to be spirit-filled at The Church of the Pilgrimage. Give all praise to God!

Love,

Dessert, Salad, Rolls and a Beverage will be provided as well as an evening of Halloween fun. You are asked to bring a main dish to be shared that does not include nuts or shellfish (we are concerned about those who may have allergies). Be sure to label the dish with a description of the dish and your name so the container can be returned to you. It might be fun to add the recipe for those who would like a copy to use at some future date. The cost for the evening will be $3 per person with a $10 maximum for a family of four or more. We hope that you will come in costume and join in the "parade." Eugene Distefano has agreed to be our master of ceremonies this year and has some interesting things planned. Sign-ups will begin this Sunday and continue for the month. Don't miss this event. It is a staple for our Harvest Fair weekend and is always a great time.
