No. 27

Dear Friends,

These really are exciting times for our congregation! The Pilgrimage Herald is full of information concerning events, activities and information regarding the impressive work of the church. Last Sunday during worship we heard excellent reports from church members excited about their own involvement in the expanding work of the church. I have been impressed with the energy and passion there is for many mission-related activities in which are church involved. Especially impressive was the list of mission programs, local and global recently printed on the back of a Sunday bulletin. The impressive listing is in addition to the funds we pledge to Our Church's Wider Mission. May God continue to bless our efforts to minister in Christ's name.

The Search Committee has done a marvelous job in its charge to recommend a candidate to be our settled associate minister. John McNicholas is to be greatly praised for his leadership as chair of that committee. His presentation last Sunday was masterful. There is far more work to conducting a search for a candidate than most people aware. The committee with John has been working is one of the best, most balanced I can imagine. The committee is representative of our churches composition, including theological viewpoints, age groups, long standing church members and those who have been attracted to the church in the last few years. I am gratified and thankful for the prayerful and diligent work of the Search Committee!

I've had many conversations with the Search Committee's recommended candidate, Heather Moody. I have been greatly impressed by Heather's sensitivity, pastoral concern and her theological orientation and training. She is a young woman who has many ideas concerning Christian Education and youth ministry. She is articulate and charming and her pastoral abilities extend to people of all ages in our congregation.

I urge you to be present this coming Sunday to hear Heather's candidating sermon and to meet her. I also hope that you will avail yourselves of opportunities to meet Heather prior to Sunday on September 23rd, 24th which have been planned by the Search Committee.

We are, indeed, fortunate to have a candidate of Heather's stature to consider as one of our settled ministers. I feel confident that you will concur with the Search Committee's recommendation of Heather Moody as associate pastor when you meet her.

May God continue to bless The Church of the Pilgrimage!

Love,

Please take a turn for.....Coffee Hour:
As part of our regular Sunday worship, we provide coffee and refreshments in Allerton Hall after the 10am worship service. This time together is an important part of our community fellowship. To make it successful we need volunteers to set up the coffee counter before the service and provide coffee cake, fruit bread or the like (purchased or homemade) crackers and cheese. At least two individuals are needed each Sunday-couples or friends may sign-up together. We would like to have each person in the congregation to volunteer for at least one Sunday during the year. With Thanks, The House Committee

The Case of the Disappearing Towels: We are hoping you can help us solve a mystery. Many of the towels from the kitchen in Allerton Hall are missing. If you think you may have brought one home to wash it and forgot to return it, please do so at your earliest convenience. Thanks.

Missions and Outreach Committee

The Greater Plymouth Food Warehouse at 11 Resnick Road in the Glynn Electric building, relies on individuals, organizations and food drives to stock its shelves continuously. A new program to help seniors in addition to the ongoing support for families and people in crisis, increases the need for non-perishables, especially cereal and canned fruit. Two large red bins, one on each side of the staircases leading to the sanctuary, stand ready to be filled each Sunday, to help address the needs of a growing number of people in our community.

SAVE THE DATE
: Please mark your calendars and plan to join us on October 23, 2005 from 12:30-3:30 for the Church World Service Crop Walk.

Thank you to all who have made donations and helped assemble fifty school kits, so far, to be sent to children in Katrina-ravaged areas. Thank you to Shellie McCormack, who found forty canvas bags through the Plymouth Public Schools for this project, which continues through September.
Items needed for School Kits are as follows:
* One pair of blunt scissors
* Pads or notebooks of ruled paper 8-1/2" X 11" containing 150-200 sheets of paper
* One 30-centimeter ruler (12")
* One pencil sharpener
* Six new pencils with erasers
* One large eraser
* Twelve sheets colored construction paper
* One box of 24 crayons
* One 12" X 14" cloth bag with cloth handles and a closure (Velcro, snap, or button)

A Notice from the Cribroom: We are in desperate need for volunteers in the cribroom. We do not have enough people who are willing to help with the children to make up a revolving schedule. I am asking anyone interested to please call me or to talk to me in church. If we do not get any response, parents will be responsible for watching their own children during church. Please help us work together. Thank You! Laura Curtin

Harvest Fair News:
The fair is less than 6 weeks away and we are in need of volunteers to help out with setting up and volunteers for working on tables during the fair. If you have a few hours the day of the fair, October 29th or Friday, the 28th we need you! And your help would be greatly appreciated. A few tables are also in need of things: American Girl Doll Table is looking for any gently used clothes for dolls or Bitty Baby dolls or doll accessories. Please call Marilyn Colburn at 746-8690. The Bubbles and Bath Table is looking for any pretty hand towels, soaps, lotions etc. Please contact Barbara Northrop at 781-582-2050 if you can help in this area. The Linens and Things Table is looking for any linens such as tablecloths, napkins, doilies, placemats, table runners etc. We are also looking for any sewing items such as pillows, runners etc. that anyone may have. Contact is Gail David at 746-9182. Debby Porter is looking for kitchen help for the Harvest Fair Luncheon. She does such a wonderful job with this, serving lobster rolls and other yummy items for lunch. Please call her or speak to her in church if you could help her out. Her phone number is 746-4109. Remember to pick up your raffle tickets at church on Sunday. Dave Cowie has done a lot of work on this and we have a lot of great prizes to be won this year. This raffle brings in one quarter of the total funds of the fair. Let's keep it going. Pick up tickets to sell to friends, neighbors colleagues and yourself and have a chance to win a fantastic price. Thank you Dave for all your hard work! There will be a final Harvest Fair Meeting on October 17th at 7pm at Laura Curtin's home, 10 Kristin Road. Call for directions if need be 746-7761. Thank you to everyone who has already signed up to help with the fair and to all of you who work so hard year after year on your tables! It is greatly appreciated.
Sincerely, Laura Curtin
