Pilgrim Bell Ringers Handbell Choir:

The Church of the Pilgrimage is privileged to own a set of 25 handbells. These bells were crafted by the Whitechapel Bell Foundry in London, UK. This foundry, which dates back to 1570, created well known bells such as Big Ben in London and the Liberty Bell in Philadelphia, PA. Originally 13 bells were purchased in 1951. At that time Mrs. Esther Crowell formed the Pilgrim Bell Ringers. Soon twelve more bells were purchased and the group started performing at venues outside of the church. The Ringers performed at schools, rest homes, prisons and other churches. Highlights include performing at the celebrations welcoming the ship Mayflower II to Plymouth in 1957. Mrs. Crowell led the Pilgrim Bell Ringers for 24 years. Later directors of the Ringers were Irene Anthony, Beatrice Iams and Lois Post. The bells continued to be used on a limited basis until 2015 when a concerted effort was made to restart the Pilgrim Bell Ringers under the direction of Michael Eaton.
